Derby Girl Name
I just recently got on this RD kick. I am SUPER excited. In addition to buying the gear and getting ready for the practices my husband and I recruited all of our friends and family to help come up with a suitable name. After almost a week I thought I had found the PERFECT name for myself. Chrissy Hawaiian Punchy. I'm Hawaiian. I have some aggression issues. I love it. THEN...I started cruising the registry and found another similar name. Hawaiian Punch Red. I thought, ok, no big deal. It's close, but not exact. Turns out it may be a little too close. Of all the teams in all the country, she is a DG 30 miles from me in CO Springs. So now the dilemma...do I try and find something new when I have already fallen in love with this name, or do I go with my initial reaction and just say deal with it and if she wants it, she can try and take it?
How did you guys come up with a name?
Thanks

You could always get in contact with Hawaiian Punch Red and ask if she would be ok with you registering it. She may say no but she also could say yes. When I registered my name (Helen Carnate) my league submitted it with an email from the next closest skater (Devlin Carnate) who happens to skate on the opposite coast from me. The TwoEvils jury is still out but I have my fingers crossed.
Good luck and welcome to the derby world!

NH Roller Derby
Proper Derby Girl Respect and Etiquitte dictates that names are earned and approved on a first come basis.
TwoEvils keeps the National Database and all Derby names must be submitted to them by your designated league contact.
You may NOT submit, or start using a Derby name until you have passed your leagues required skills tests etc. Def talk to the vets or the head of your league before using any name other than Fresh Meat (or Fresh Blood - or what ever your league designates newbies.
A Derby name is EARNED - not just chosen - It is earned by blood, sweat, bruises and tears on the track - and names are taken VERY seriously - Ask any veteran skater - they will enlighten you.
The skater that has the name that is close to what you want has already earned it - it is hers - and it isnt a matter if "if she wants it she can try and take it" you need her permission otherwise TwoEvils will not accept your submission and you will not be able to skate under that name in ANY WFTDA bout or any WFDTA sanctioned event - and it is just plain NOT COOL - trust me - dont start your Derby experience on a note like that - it's respect - it's Derby etiquitte.
Good luck with your foray into the world of Roller Derby - just do it the right way - the DERBY way - and I hope to see you on the track!!

One of the girls on my team named me. Since my name is Silence, they named me Silence I Kill You after one of Jeff Dunhams puppets. I liked it so I kept it.
But alot of girls on my team are having the same problem. Look at your personality and ask the retired skaters around you. Or even your friends.

I don't have a name yet, if I were you I would still apply for the name you like and then take it from there
